Aaron Rodgers pulls no punches against Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes talking about The Match

Aaron Rodgers doesn't appear to have any worries about The Match against Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes on June 1. The Packers quarterback was not shy in criticizing the duo's golf game after conducting a "scouting report" of sorts.

Appearing on "Inside the NBA" with Tom Brady over the weekend, Rodgers had plenty of trash talk for the next generation to Charles Barkley and the crew.

"Charles, I've done my scouting report and I heard that Josh was terrible in Pebble (Beach) and Pat has played the last couple of years in Tahoe and hasn't broken 80 yet," Rodgers said on the show. "I think he was closer to being in a group with you -- no offense, Charles -- than maybe with me in Tahoe. I feel really good about our chances."

Brady was more diplomatic throughout the interview, but he did have some trash to talk in his own way.

"Whatever those young guys want to bet," he said. "I know, I'm probably the lowest-paid guy out there on the golf course this time around between those three heavy hitters, but whatever they want, I got action on those guys. Although I would say golf's not my number one sport, it may have a way of bringing out the best in me. I think we're ready to take on these young bucks."

Brady also talked about his experience with the second iteration of The Match with Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, and recalled his own nerves.

"I remember getting over the tee box in that match, it was pouring rain, it was at Medalist (Golf Club), the fairways are about this wide," he said. "I looked down at the ball and I couldn't feel my arms. I was like how am I gonna hit the ball? I can't feel my fricken arms. And sure enough I somehow found a way on the back half to put some ... together but it's definitely a different job. I've never felt that on the football field but on the golf course I definitely feel that."

Rodgers and Brady seem to be bringing a hyper-competitive spirit to The Match, which should be some great television if nothing else. For his part, Rodgers did finish ahead of Patrick Mahomes in the celebrity-filled American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe in 2021, where Rodgers finished 24th and Mahomes finished 50th.

Rodgers will look to duplicate that success as the veterans look to show the newcomers it's not their time to take the reins just yet.
