Wankhede Stadium to host Test match after three years? India vs New Zealand to be held in Mumbai in October

Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium is all set to host a men's Test match for the first time in three years as one of three Test matches between India and New Zealand will conducted at the venue in October 2024, according to the Times of India.

India will play host to the Kiwis for a three-match Test series which will conducted in October and November. The series will be a part of the ICC World Cup Test Championship 2023-25 cycle .

The game will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wankhede Stadium which hosted its first-ever Test match in January 1975 between India and West Indies.

When was the last time a Test match was held at Wankhede Stadium?

The last men's Test match which was held at the venue was between India and New Zealand back in December 2021. Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel took 10 wickets in an innings, however, the hosts won the clash by 372 runs.

India women's team played a Test match against Australia at Wankhede Stadium in December 2023.

What next for the Indian cricket team?

The Indian players are currently taking part in the IPL 2024. Once the domestic T20 competition is over, the 15-man Indian squad will travel to the US to take part in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
