On Wednesday, May 8, Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team to be eliminated from playoffs contention in IPL 2024 as a consequence of Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) 10-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
MI are currently in ninth position on the table, having collected just four wins in 12 games. It was a horrible showing from the Men in Blue and Gold all campaign, with flashes of brilliance. In hindsight, to say that they were undeserving of a top-four spot would be a fair assessment.

No team has qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs, but Mumbai Indians remain the only team to be eliminated from contention.
As things stand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are on course to seal their playoff spots. Both teams are level on 16 points from 11 games apiece, and need just one more win to qualify for the playoffs, unless other results deem that requirement to become irrelevant.
SRH, with 14 points, lie in third place on the points table and are almost assured of a playoff berth, too. That leaves us with one spot, which looks likely to be a three-way battle between Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and LSG, the fourth, fifth, and sixth-placed teams at the moment, respectively.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), the next two teams in the standings, will square off on Thursday, May 9. The loser of this game will be eliminated, while the winner's hopes will remain alive, even if by the barest of margins.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have the same points as RCB and PBKS, and could yet remain in contention for a third or fourth-place finish should they win all their remaining games and have the other results work in their favour.
